Sql Error (17) Server does not exist or access denied

I get this error with every session configuration I attempt.

HeidiSQL is installed on my Windows 7 work station (I'm logged in as a network administrator during these attempts).

MS SQL Server 2008 R2 is Installed on our Windows Server 2008 R2 machine.

I have an ODBC connection to this SQL server that I'm using Create, Drop, Select, Insert, and Update queries on with no problem.

I the Heidi session configuration, I've tried named pipe and IP and every authentication method using the server administrator password to no avail.

Any suggestions much appreciated.

"Server does not exist" sounds a lot like you entered a wrong hostname.

I got it! I had port 1433 blocked.
